George Santos remains in House after vote to expel fails

, ,

The House of Representatives had a vote last week to expel Rep George Santos (R-NY) from Congress. I’m sure everyone has heard of him and his controversies by now, so I’ll spare you that.

To expel a representative, the House must reach a two-thirds vote. That means that currently, the House would have to have 291 or more votes in favor of the expulsion.

However, the vote to expel Rep Santos last week failed.

Count of the vote to expel Rep George Santos:
164 For Expulsion
197 Against Expulsion
10 Present Votes
62 Not Voting

Even though this vote failed, he could still get expelled later on this Congress. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll get re-elected in 2024, as he’s very unpopular among New Yorkers in his district, on both sides of the aisle.

As well as that, he also has a Criminal Trial next year by US District Judge Joanna Seybert of Long Island, that said trial scheduled for September 9th, 2024.
