Former Congresswoman and anti-Trump conservative Liz Cheney (R-WY) has recently said that she was considering running for president as a third-party candidate in 2024.
“We face threats that could be existential to the United States, and we need a candidate who is going to be able to deal with and address and confront all of those challenges,” the former-congresswoman told The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Although Trump is still the frontrunner of the Republican Party, she could pose a threat to the former president. If both her and independent candidate RFK Jr. appear on the ballot, that could significantly split the conservative vote in many swing states. If that happened, it could be an easy win for President Biden.
However, it’s unclear how much support she will garner. RFK Jr. is a part of the famous Kennedy family, therefore he could potentially appeal to some centrist and moderate working-class Democrats. Yet, although Liz Cheney served a very important role on the Jan 6th Committee, she still has solidly conservative stances, thus not getting as much of the centrist voter base.
She is set to make her decision on if she is running or not in the coming months. Make sure to Follow our Twitter/X @WiscAdvance, and turn on notifications so that you stay up to date on this and all other topics.
