Vote counts were updated last on Jan 24, 2024 @ 11:53 AM Central, with 94% of the Democratic votes and 96% of the Republican votes reported.
Today, Tuesday the 23th of January, the New Hampshire Presidential Primary elections happened for both the Republican and Democratic parties.
For the Republicans, the only two candidates remaining were Donald Trump and Nikki Haley. Trump won a slim majority, with about 54% of the vote. Haley got about 43% of the vote, which was way more than many people expected.
Trump is expected to get 12 delegates, and Haley is expected to get 9. This is due to the fact that New Hampshire awards the person with the most votes a few more delegates than proportionate to the popular vote.
For the Democrats, people had to write in President Joe Biden if they wished to vote for him, since NH failed to comply with new DNC policy. Due to this, New Hampshire has zero delegates at stake for the Democratic Party this year, so it doesn’t really affect anything in reality.
The NH Democratic presidential primary race was called very early, with President Biden winning an expected victory.
The President got an estimated 65% of the vote. Dean Phillips got a far second place with about 19.5% of the vote, and Marianne Williamson got third with about 4.5% of the vote.
Some of the vote counts are estimated due to the fact that some of them are write-in, they take much longer to process. However, we can add up Biden’s processed votes and the unprocessed write-ins to get a pretty good guess. Both races have been called, so we’re confident that it will not change too substantially.
As expected, Biden won the Democratic primary, and Trump is winning the GOP. However, Trump’s majority is vastly less than many thought it would be, and this is a big blow to Trump’s grasp on the Republican voter-base.
