The House Republican conference had a meeting behind closed doors earlier this week, where they reportedly held a vote on who should be the Republican for Speaker of the House.
According to lawmakers at the meeting, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) defeated Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH), 113 to 99.
Meanwhile, House Democrats are still united on Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for Speaker of the House.
The vote for Speaker of the House was supposed to be held yesterday, October 11th, but alas it was delayed.
Even though the nomination of the Republican House conference is Scalise, that does not necessarily mean that all GOP congresspeople will vote for him in the actual election of the speakership.
Now that it only takes one rep to call a vote of no confidence, ousting Speakers before the end of the Congress may become more common. I guess we will have to wait and find out.
