Last Friday, the third round of voting for the Speaker of the House happened, and still, nobody has been elected to the job. Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) lost even more support among the House Republicans, and it seems unlikely that he will end up the Speaker in the end.
Vote count of the 3rd Speaker vote:
Total – 429
Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) – 194
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) – 210
Other – 25
Present – 0
After said vote, the House Republicans met in conference behind closed doors, and voted 112 to 86 to get a new official Republican Speaker nominee, meaning that it’s unlikely Jordan will get the job. There has not been a new nomination yet announced.
A fourth Speaker vote is expected soon, most likely tomorrow on Tuesday, October 24th, as that’s when the House is reconvening. The House Republican conference is meeting behind closed doors today (10/23/2023) to try and come up with a new nomination.
