November 7th Elections

, ,

Today, November 7th, 2023, there are a number of elections across quite a few states. Here in Wisconsin, there is not an election however.

In Virginia, all seats in the Virginian General Assembly are up for election. The Senate of Virginia is the only state organ that the Democratic Party still has control of, and it is going to be a tight race today. The issue of abortion plays a big role into voters’ stances this November.

In Kentucky, the Democratic incumbent Governor Andy Beshear is being challenged by Republican candidate Daniel Cameron. Daniel Cameron is currently the state Attorney General of Kentucky, and has defended the state’s total abortion ban. Governor Andy Beshear (D) seems to be leading in the polls by quite a bit, however, as his more-moderate stances appeal to a broader voting base.

In Ohio, there are referendums being held on two amendments. The first one is to legalize abortion, and the second one is to decriminalize marijuana.

In Mississippi, the incumbent Republican Governor Tate Reeves is being challenged by Democratic challenger Brandon Presley. Brandon Presley has been involved in scandals, so that will seem to be a challenge for him most likely. However, the interesting thing is that both candidates oppose legalizing abortion.

Texans have quite a bit to vote on, including a proposition to raise the mandatory retirement age for state judges from 75, up to 79. They also have 14 other amendments on the ballot, which is too much to cover here.

For more information on the elections, I suggest checking out your local MyVote website, or ballotpedia.com. As well as that, make sure to VOTE!
